Children of Earth Day Two
Frobisher: Can I ask – did the 456 contact any other country?
The Daily Mail was outraged when John Barrowman showed certain things on BBC Radio One (and this was radio), so what would they make of the same thing happening this time but on BBC One, (albeit disguised by fuzzy cams and several gallons of liquid concrete)?
The concrete sequence and its eventual resolution was a demonstration that although Torchwood has gone all glossy and serious for BBC One at 9pm, there is still room for daft fun. Good to see a classic Doctor Who quarry put to good use there.
Other highlights included – the subtly nuanced scene between Ianto and sis, and the final scenes. As Decker creepily blew on the glass of the “throne room… or slaughterhouse?”, it recalled to me the subtle terrors of Doctor Who: Fury from the Deep, another story which knew the effects of eerie images.
Now that the Hub is a crater(!) “everything changes” I s’pose – I can’t wait for Ep 3!
